Joan T. Callahan's Obituary
Joan T. Callahan passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026, at her daughter's residence, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Philadelphia to her parents Rebecca Bonner and Alfred Bauman, Joan was 96 years old. For the past 15 years, Joan resided in Riverton, New Jersey, and previously lived in Moorestown and Cinnaminson. She was the beloved wife of the late James B. Callahan, Sr. She attended Little Flower High School in Philadelphia, and went on to graduate from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in English. After many years as a homemaker, Joan went back to school for Accounting and joined Callahan Chemical Company as Controller. Joan was predeceased by her children, Nancy Walsh, Patricia Callahan, and James B. Callahan, Jr. She is lovingly survived by her children, Kathleen (Gregory) Shetler, John G. (Kristin) Callahan, and Joseph A. (Sallie) Callahan. She was a cherished grandmother to Sarah (Haig) Aghajanian, James (Samantha) Callahan, Kevin Walsh, Jennifer Callahan, Bridget Callahan, Regina (Michael) Nalbone, John Callahan, Thomas (Sifat) Shetler, Conor Callahan, Corinne (Stephen) Hermann, and Anna Shetler, and a devoted great-grandmother to Lia, Eva, Cooper, James, Shane, Connor, Luke, Freya, and Stephen. Joan was a daily communicant at Sacred Heart Church in Riverton. She was an active volunteer for numerous organizations, including Project Linus, Willing and Able, the Rosary Guild and Food Pantry. Joan also enjoyed knitting, reading, cooking, and baking, but above all she
treasured time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 103 Fourth Street, Riverton, NJ 08077. A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by burial at Lakeview Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joan's name may be made to Sacred Heart Church.
