Joan S. Hiddemen's Obituary
We are sad to announce the death of our Joanie, who passed away in her Oak Valley home at the age of 82. Joanie loved holidays with her family, especially Christmas time when she was able to watch her favorite Hallmark movies. Some of her other favorite interests included cruising around in her black Honda Civic, listening to all kinds of music, ending up at her favorite place, National Park. A perfect day for Joan often involved McDonalds breakfast and a day at the beach. Joanie was an avid watcher of The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful and she would share the daily details of all the drama.
Mom is back in the arms of the love of her life, Pop. They were married 33 years before Pop passed on April 12, 1992. She missed him everyday.
At 40 years old, Joan fulfilled her educational calling by attending Gloucester County College to practice nursing. She was proud of her service as an LPN at Underwood Memorial Hospital. She was very intelligent and was essential to the family’s educational success with every fast approaching deadline. She was proud to embrace her Irish heritage and never shied away from sharing stories of her Southwest Philly upbringing. Joan embodied a warm spirit that made everyone feel welcome and safe. She was everyone’s gramma, made evident in the fact that everyone referred to her as such. She was quick to offer you a kind word or much needed hug.
Loving mother to Joseph Hiddemen (Jill), Michael Hiddemen (Vicki), Kelly Slough (Bill), Timothy Hiddemen (Christa). Loved by fourteen grandchildren, twin great granddaughters, and nieces and nephews. Loving sister to Dorothy Barnes and preceded in death by brothers, Charles Sweeney and Joseph Sweeney.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at Infant Jesus Parish (St. Margaret's Church), 845 3rd Street, Woodbury Heights, NJ on Wednesday September 28th from 10am to 11:15am. Mass of Christian burial will begin at 11:30 am immediately following viewing. Interment will follow at New St. Mary’s Cemetery 515 W. Browning Road Bellmawr, NJ 08031.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan S. Hiddemen’s memory may be made to The Deptford Library, 670 Ward Dr. Deptford, NJ 08096 and/or Gloucester VA Clinic 211 County House Rd. Sewell, NJ 08080
