Joan E Wensauer's Obituary
Joan Elizabeth Wensauer (nee Langford), of Maple Shade, NJ, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2024. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the beloved youngest daughter to the late George and Goldie Irene (nee Wilson) Langford. Joan was 88 years old. She was the adored wife of the late Anton Wensauer; cherished mother of Cathy Wensauer, Joan “Joanie” Wensauer, and Dr. Anton “Tony” Wensauer (Dr. Theresa Ratajczak); dear aunt of Donnie and Sharon Saxton. Joan was predeceased by her sister Phyllis Saxton and brother in law, John.
She grew up in Philadelphia and joined the Army two days after turning 18. Joan worked as a “polls” official (Republican Challenger) in Willingboro for 20+ years during every local and national election. She also was a crossing guard for the Willingboro School system in the 1960’s.
Joan and her family loved to boat, camp and hike; and spent many summers cruising the Chesapeake Bay and hiking the trails of Elk Neck State Park and Turkey Point in MD. They also winter camped in the Poconos and the Florida Keys. Autumns were enjoyed on the back of a motorcycle with her husband, Tony, in the picturesque hills of PA. Joan loved to travel and visited Europe, Canada, New England, and Costa Rico . She also enjoyed cruises to Alaska and the Virgin Islands. Later in life she spent her summer days in Cape May with her daughters and enjoyed many trips to Disney World and Hawaii. She took great joy in the planning of the next trip.
Joan treasured her time with her “baby boy” Anton. He represents the second act of this family’s story. She was very proud of him and his wife and cherished her time with them. She was also an animal lover, and an amazing cook. Holiday traditions were created around her legendary culinary feats, such as Thanksgiving in the woods with friends and family. Joan and her husband, Tony, made some wonderful friendships over the years.
