John Taylor's Obituary
The Obituary of John Taylor,
John Taylor of Delran, NJ passed away at his residence on April 28, 2013
John was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, on January 3, 1927, the youngest of five children born to James and Christiana Elizabeth Taylor. He was educated in schools in Forest Hall and Gosforth, graduating with the Matriculation Certificate of the University of Durham.
Following service in the Royal Air Force in 1945-1948, John was employed by Lloyds Bank Ltd. and gained the Associate Certificate of the Institute of Bankers, London. In April 1954, he resigned from the bank and sailed to the United States where he married his pen-pal, Anne Louise Lofaro, of North Tarrytown, New York, on October 9, 1954. Following some months spent in a Wall Street bank, John gained employment in Ford International?s Export Operations in Jersey City, and later, in Newark, before joining First Pennsylvania Bank?s International Department in 1967, retiring as Assistant Vice President in 1990.
John enjoyed several sports, but soccer was his favorite. He became the coach of Delran AA?s first traveling team in August 1969, and participated in the intramural program for several years. To John, the most important reason for having a computer was to obtain the English Premier League results, particularly those of Newcastle United.
Converting to the Roman Catholic Church in 1958, John became a lector; Holy Name Society member and retreatant while a parishioner at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Elizabeth, New Jersey. Later, he served the Church of the Holy Name, Delran in various capacities from its inception in 1972. He particularly enjoyed his time in the Renew Group and as a member of the Perpetual Adoration Apostolate. He was also a member of K. of C. Council 1436, Delran, and a Spiritual Care Volunteer at Lourdes Hospital, Willingboro, NJ.
John was always thankful for his many blessings: the family he came from; the family he married into; and the wife and family that were given to him in the United States. He leaves to mourn for him his loving and caring wife of 58 years, Anne Louise; his three children, Elizabeth Simpson (Frank), Anne Louise Troccoli (Dan) and John (Denise); nine grandchildren, Frank and Christopher Simpson, Victoria, Amelia and Sarah Troccoli, Christine (Michael), Katherine, Mary and Jack Taylor, and great Grandson Dylan Gilliss; sisters-in-law, Jeanne, Barbara and Marion, and several nephews and nieces on both sides of the Atlantic.
