John "Bob" Robert Hambleton's Obituary
John Robert “Bob” Hambleton, 94, passed away on November 6, 2019 at Medford Leas, in Medford, NJ, after living there for 18 years.
Bob was born in Oil City, PA, the son of Edna Godshalk and John Wesley Hambleton. He lived much of his youth in Bridgeton, NJ, where he graduated high school as Salutatorian in 1943. He served in the United States Army as an observer in the Coastal Artillery during World War II. He was a 1949 graduate of Bucknell University where he received a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering. He began his career as a process engineer and supervisor with Rohm and Haas Company in 1950 and continued there for 33 years before his retirement. Bob married Isabel Edwards in 1953 and moved to Moorestown in 1964. He served on the board of the Moorestown Library and was a volunteer in the financial office of the First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown for many years. A skilled athlete, he played for the company baseball and volleyball teams of Rohm and Haas. He was an avid reader and card player, especially Bridge; he enjoyed puzzles of all kinds, and was a lifelong fan of all the Philadelphia sports teams. Bob and Isabel enjoyed traveling widely before and after his retirement.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Isabel, in 2002, and his brother, Richard Hambleton, in early 2019.
Bob is survived by his son, David E. Hambleton (Barb) of Leavenworth, WA; Janet H. Wilkie (Alexander) of Moorestown, NJ; a granddaughter, Gwendolyn Wilkie, and a grandson, Nathaniel Wilkie.
A memorial service will be held on November 15 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown, NJ, followed by a reception in Fellowship Hall. Burial will be private.
