John G. Bynum Sr.'s Obituary
John G. Bynum Sr. was born on January 16,1938 in Philadelphia, PA to the late David and Dolores Bynum. He was educated in the Philadelphia School District and graduated from Northeast High School in 1955. John enlisted in the Army Reserve in 1961 and functioned as a Sergeant. John would later obtain an honorable discharge from the army in 1969.
John accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age and was baptized at 11 years old at St. Phillips Baptist Church. While at St. Phillips he served as a junior usher. He later attended the Triumph Baptist Church of Philadelphia where he faithfully served on the Hospitality Ministry.
John began his civilian career at the Philadelphia Post office in 1967. He was a supervisor at the 30th Street Station Post Office and retired in 1992. After retiring from the Post Office John began his second career at the Philadelphia School Board as a School Police Officer in 1993. During his tenure as a school police officer, he enjoyed chaperoning at school proms, basketball games and school dances. John would later go on to retire from the School Board in 2018.
After retirement John spent his latter days traveling with his family. He was an avid Philadelphia Sports Team fan and loved watching the Eagles. In addition to watching sports, he enjoyed his days cruising to Bahamas and Mexico and his favorite pastime was “Dancing”.
John leaves to cherish his memories his children: Renee (Will), John Jr. (Quaitra), and Marie “Angel”. Lifelong friend and mother of his children Bernice Jackson. Cherished grandfather of Bobby (deceased), Me’Nekah (Shawn), Alesa, Trisha, Jessica, Bianca, John (Diamond), Je’ohna (Calvin), Dahvoughn (Jackie), David (Tylisa), Derick (Nya) and a host of great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. John will also be missed by many cousins, nieces, nephews, family, friends, co-workers, church family and his special cousins: Maryann, Mia, Michelle, Mary and Wilbert.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at Givnish of Cinnaminson, 1200 Route 130 N., on Saturday April 15th from 12 to 1 pm. His life celebration service will begin at 1 pm. Interment will be private.
