John "Jack" J. Olson Jr.'s Obituary
John J. "Jack" Olson Jr., age 78, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025, surrounded by his
loving family. Born on July 5, 1946, in Philadelphia, PA, Jack was the son of the late John Olson
Sr. and Marie Olson (née Kuhn).
Jack was the devoted husband of 53 years to Maryann Olson (née Layer), whom he married on
April 15, 1973—Tax Day—so he’d never forget their anniversary. Together they raised their
family in the Mayfair section of Philadelphia, a neighborhood Jack was always proud to call
home.
He was a beloved father to Maryann Suszynski (Ed), Julie Grone (Thomas), Marlene Hamm
(Nate), and the late John Olson (Christy). Known affectionately as "Pop Pop," Jack was
cherished by his grandchildren: Brendan, Katelyn, Natalie (Jimmy), Marissa, Lucas, Zachary,
and Alyson; and his great-granddaughter, Nora, who brought him great joy in his later years.
Jack was the dear brother of Greg Olson (Marilee), Denny Olson, and the late Bernadette
(George). He will also be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and
friends.
A self-proclaimed “Jack of all trades, master of none,” Jack was dependable, generous with his
time, and always the first to show up when someone needed a hand. His dedication to his family,
unwavering support, and steady presence will never be forgotten.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, July 11th at Sacred Heart Church, 4th
and Linden Streets in Riverton, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at
11:00 AM. Interment will be private at a later date at Washington Crossing National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack’s memory may be made to The Children’s Hospital of
Philadelphia, www.chop.edu or The Wounded Warrior Project,
