John J. Petka Jr.'s Obituary
John J. Petka Jr., 86, of Philadelphia, passed away peacefully. Born and raised in Philadelphia on December 5, 1939,
John was the beloved husband of the late Clementina L. Petka (née Mazzei) and the loving father of Felicia Petka.
John was predeceased by his parents, John J. and Victoria H. Petka (née Tarlowski), and his brother of the late Stanley Petka.
John is survived by his brother Vincent Petka, and sisters Rose Jordan, Joanna O'Shaughnessy (James), Agnes Kwiatkowski (Dennis), and Theresa Walter, He is also survived by beloved cousins whom he cherished as close friends throughout his life.
A proud Philadelphia native, John was affectionately remembered as something of a trouble maker in his youth — fun-loving, quick-witted, and always ready with a practical joke. That warmth and humor stayed with him throughout his life and endeared him to everyone who knew him. He attended Northeast Catholic High School, where he excelled in advanced studies.
John proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1962, returning home with a deep and lasting love and appreciation for Spain.
It was at Royal Rack Services, where he worked as a sales manager, that John met Clementina, the love of his life. He went on to become a part owner of Dollar Stretcher and later finished his career at KeHe Distributors. Yet of all his accomplishments, John considered his family to be his greatest achievement. He was known throughout his life for his strong work ethic, his devotion to family, and his remarkable ability to adapt
to whatever challenges came his way. John's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Jefferson Moss-Magee Rehabilitation Hospital for their exemplary efforts in helping John gain greater independence, and to the staff of Mount Holly Rehabilitation Center for the compassionate care given to him. Service Information: John will be interred alongside his wife at the Brigadier General Wm. C. Doyle Veterans' Cemetery on Friday, July 10th, with full military honors.
