Joseph P LaMonica's Obituary
Joseph Paul LaMonica, lovingly known as “Joe Scarola”, of Delran, NJ, passed away on February 27th, 2025, at the age of 93.
Born to the late Basilio and Mary (nee Parpagnano) LaMonica on December 17th, 1931, in Philadelphia, PA. Joseph is reunited in death with his eight loving siblings, Mary, Pauline, Josephine, Millie, Frank, Pete, Carlo, and Mike. While growing up, his parents passed away at an early age and as a result Joe developed a strong work ethic and compassion to take care of those he loved throughout his entire life. In his spare time, Joseph loved hanging out with friends in South Philly and playing football for the South Philly Italians. In 1962, Joe met the love of his life, Frances (nee Gavin). The pair became inseparable, marrying on November 14th, 1964. Together, Joe and Fran welcomed four loving children into their world, Darren LaMonica, Kim (Joseph) Coluzzi, Joey LaMonica, and Anthony (Laurie) LaMonica. Joe knew he wanted to be the sole provider for his family and worked tirelessly as a truck driver for Pantry Pride and ACME Markets, working the overnight shift so Fran could provide his children with the life he always dreamed of as a kid. Joe loved being their dad, he attended every school event or sports game, cheering his kids on from the sidelines. As a family, they took vacations with neighbors and friends to the Poconos and enjoyed Sunday dinner together, where Joe made his gravy and meatballs.
Joe’s world became much brighter when he became the loving grandfather to Marisa (Michael) Follet, Alexa Coluzzi, Isabella Coluzzi, Avery LaMonica, Brayden LaMonica, and Addison LaMonica. Joe was an unwavering figure in their lives, watching them grow up had been one of his proudest achievements. Joseph’s love for his family was widely known at every family function with his many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Joe’s passion for those around him extended into many different areas of his life. He advocated and held fundraisers for better sports complexes and facilities in Delran Township, where he was a long-term resident. He also invested his time in politics for the Democratic party, working with the Jon Corzine campaign for New Jersey and hosted many Democratic events in his home with his family and friends by his side. Joe was a proud and active member of the Teamsters Local 500 and enjoyed watching any of the Philadelphia sports teams, especially the Eagles and Phillies.
Joe will be deeply missed for his charismatic, kind personality, and his love for his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Joe’s viewing on Thursday, March 6th, 2025, from 9am – 10:30am in Resurrection Parish – Church of The Holy Name, located at 260 Conrow Rd, Delran, NJ, 08075, with a funeral mass starting at 10:30am.
