Joseph P. Mahoney's Obituary
Joseph P. Mahoney, of Mount Laurel, NJ, passed away unexpectedly on January 5, 2026. He was 40 years old.
Born in Philadelphia on November 22, 1985, Joe was a lifelong and passionate Philadelphia sports fan—especially when it came to the Eagles. Go Birds.
Joe was a loving husband and devoted father with an enormous love for life. He always had a smile on his face—singing, dancing, or cracking a joke to keep everyone laughing. Joe had a truly big heart and a gift for making people feel welcomed and loved. He cherished staying connected with friends and family, especially through FaceTime, and made it a point to never let distance get in the way of relationships.
Joe met the love of his life, Shannon, and never looked back. Together they built a beautiful life, and Joe became an incredible father to his two children, Sam and Patrick, who were his entire world. He absolutely loved being a dad.
Before becoming a father himself, Joe was the fun uncle. Uncle Joe loved taking the kids fishing and to the beach, where tossing the little ones around in the water was always a highlight and guaranteed laughter. Joe was a proud blue-collar worker at the Mount Laurel MUA. Wherever he went, he formed lasting friendships, and his coworkers quickly became like family.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 10 years, Shannon M. Mahoney (nee Bundschuh); his children, Samantha Rathgeb and Patrick Mahoney; his parents, Pat and Reenie Mahoney (nee Carr); his sister, Erin Mahoney Bloodgood (Scott); his nephews, Sean, Scott, Luke, Jake, and Ryan; his nieces Tori and Shea, his parents-in-law, Rick and Reenie Bundschuh; his brothers-in-law, Kevin Simkins (Heather), Brian Simkins (Sara) and Shawn Simkins; his sister-in-law, Amy Bundschuh; and many loving cousins and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his brother, Patrick Mahoney Jr.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation at Givnish of Cinnaminson 1200 Route 130 North, on Monday January 12th from 8:15-11:15 am, followed by his funeral Mass at 12 pm at Sacred Heart Church, 4th Street and Linden Avenue, Riverton, NJ. We ask that everyone who attends the visitation to understand a large crowd is expected for Joe and it is better to arrive early if possible.
Interment will follow in Colestown Cemetery, 100 N. Kings Hwy., Cherry Hill, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mahoney family for the education and future of Samantha and Patrick. Donations can made out to Shannon Mahoney and delivered or mailed to Givnish Funeral Home to forward to the family.
