Joseph John McDermott's Obituary
Joseph John McDermott, 75, of Mount Holly, NJ, passed away April 21, 2018.
Joe was born January 31, 1943 in Philadelphia to the late John Anthony and Claire Margaret (nee Norelli) McDermott. Joe truly lived and enjoyed everyday of his life to the fullest while being the quintessential family man. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, golfing, cheering on the Fighting Irish and spending his days down at the ballpark working for the Philadelphia Phillies.
Joe was one of the longest tenured employees in the organization’s history, following in his father’s footsteps as he started working standing guard at a mustard stand at Connie Mack stadium in 1959. Over the span of 59 seasons, he developed a McDermott legacy with all four of his children Sue, Joe, Mike and Jim working at the stadium, followed by the fourth generation of McDermott’s working for the Phillies in Meghan and Shannon. They weren’t content on just the McDermott clan as Joe and Mike married fellow usherettes in Kate and Lisa from their time at the Vet. The Phillies have and continue to be the love and pride of the McDermott family.
Joe was the beloved and devoted husband of the late Eileen McDermott. He is survived by his daughter; Suzanne Matullo and his three sons; Joseph (Kathleen), Michael (Lisa) and James (Kathleen). Joseph is also survived by his eight grandchildren who he adored; Caitlyn Matullo, Shannon Matullo, Meghan McDermott, Molly McDermott, Alex McDermott, Grace McDermott, Jimmy McDermott and Joey McDermott, his great-grandson; Kayden as well as his four siblings; Suzanne, Louis, Clairemary and Patrick.
