Joseph R. Schofield Sr's Obituary
Joseph R. Schofield, Sr. passed away peacefully on October 29, 2014 at his residence in Cinnaminson with his wife at his side. Born in Philadelphia, Joe was 82 years old. Beloved husband of 62 years to Rita R. (nee Rowan). Proud and loving father of Joseph R. Jr. and his wife Nancy of Gilbert, AZ., Robert L. and his wife Linda of Cinnaminson, N.J., Sharon Stavropoulos and her husband Terry of San Ramon, CA. and Donna Czyzyk and her husband Guy of Marlton, N.J. Mr. Schofield was the loving grandfather of Joshua, Christina, Amanda, John, Jr. (Brittany) and Robert, Jr. and great grandfather of Declan, Skyler, the late Peyton, Stella, and Lyla.
He founded Joseph R. Schofield, CLU & Associates, Inc., a life and health insurance agency specializing in estate and retirement planning. His insurance career began in 1964 and he became a qualified, honorary and life member of the prestigious Million Dollar Roundtable.
Mr. Schofield, an independent agent and broker with numerous companies, was a member and past president of the Tri County Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, a chartered member of the South Jersey Estate Planning Council, and a member of the Society of Financial Service Professionals. He was the recipient of the numerous awards including “Man of the Year” twice by the Tri County Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. He was the number one leader in lives insured in the United States for six consecutive years with The Columbus Life Insurance Company. In addition, Joe was Top Underwriter of the Year for the company in 1992. His desire to give back to his profession was reflected by his writing, speaking, facilitating and mentoring for the insurance industry and professional associations.
Joe was a parishioner at Sacred Heart Church in Riverton, N.J., and previously served as a reader at Saint Charles Borromeo Church in Cinnaminson, N.J.
Joe served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was an employee of The New Jersey Bell Telephone Company for 17 years prior to his engaging in the insurance business as an independent agent.
Friends and relatives are invited to Joe’s Life Celebration and viewing Sunday 7-9 p.m. and Monday 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at Snover/Givnish of Cinnaminson 1200 Route 130 North. His funeral mass will follow 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Riverton, N.J. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.
