I am very fortunate to have known Karen during the past few years. She was a very kind, gentle, and caring person. She was also a strong advocate against all forms of injustice and inequality. I will miss her very much.

Karen was one of the six grandchildren of Sarah and Abe Michaels. Sarah and Abe had three children. The middle child was Irving, who married Millie, and they had Karen and her sister Shelley.
Us six cousins all grew up in Brooklyn, NY before Uncle Irving moved his family to Philadelphia.
As adults, Karen and I would always talk on our birthdays – just two days apart. I don’t know how I will get through this August.
I miss her already and my heart goes out to Tom, Johanna, Susie and all her grandchildren.
