Kathryn "Kathy" V. McGovern's Obituary
Kathryn Veronica McGovern, known to most as Kathy, passed away peacefully on an early December morning. She leaves behind her husband and best friend, Jim, and her three children Kevin (Stephanie), Mark and Jaime (Steven). Her grandkids, Jackson, Ryder, Jameson and Adley lit up her life. She was the family’s matriarch, and her siblings Geraldine, Ricky, Timmy, Marie and Bobby would never dare dispute that fact- and neither would their husbands or wives. She loved her nieces and nephews mightily. She was also the glue that held together wonderful webs of friendships that spanned decades.
Kathy spent her early years in Jersey City, NJ. She attended St. Aloysius High School. There she was taught the necessary skills to know everything about everything and to beat anyone who dared to challenge her in a game of Scrabble or Words with Friends. Together, she and Jimmy moved to Delran where they built their life together. She excelled at everything she did - playing basketball, making Thanksgiving dinners, bowling and always having the ingredients on hand to make a ten-pound macaroni and cheese. She dazzled the world with her practicality and consistency. If one attribute stands out, it was her unique ability to take care of every single person in her orbit. She could feed you, love you, challenge you, listen to you, laugh with you, encourage you and deliver her own brand of honesty when it was needed (or not). Her house was a home for every one who stepped foot in it and that was important to her. There was always a pot of coffee waiting to be shared.
A gathering of friends and family will take place on Friday, December 30 th from 2:00pm-4:00pm with a memorial service starting at 4:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
