Larry A. Friedman's Obituary
Larry Alan Friedman passed away on October 2nd at his Moorestown home, in company of his wife, Barbara, and one of his sons, Micah, and daughter-in-law, Ariel. He was 61.
Larry was a great husband, father, friend, mentor, athlete, teacher, and coach. He was born in Denver and spent significant parts of his childhood in Old Bridge and Moorestown, New Jersey, where he grew up close to his cousins. He attended Rutgers University, where he also met Barbara. Over the course of his various jobs, culminating as founder and VP of the insurance brokerage RSI (now A.J. Gallagher), he strove to improve the professional and personal success and the daily lives of those he worked with. Larry was dedicated to building lasting relationships that empowered those around him. To that end, he earned certifications in Dale Carnegie public speaking, NLP, the Collaborative Way, and a host of other programs. He also coached his children's sports teams, was involved in parent-teacher activities in Lower Makefield, served on the Moorestown Board of Education, and taught as an adjunct professor at the Temple University School of Business.
Larry, a lifelong athlete, trained constantly, always with others. He consistently made getting up at 4 a.m. fun for those who joined him. He helped promote and organize the Moorestown Thanksgiving Turkey Trot, Crossfit Endurance Thursdays, and the Stronger is Better program for the Cherry Hill Fire Department. He regularly competed in and completed marathons (Boston, Jersey Shore, New York, Philadelphia), ultra running events, lake swims, bike rides, and triathlons including Ironman events and the Ultraman-Canada. He was a founding member of the Moorestown Distance Running Project and an active member and coach in the local Crossfit community.
Larry is remembered by his wife Barbara; his children Rebecca Berbel (Diego), Sam, Jacob (Brittany), and Micah (Ariel); his parents Stanley and Phyllis; his siblings Paul (Gloria), Karl (Yvonne), David (Catherine), and Jennifer Erickson (Ron); and his grandchildren, Declan and Inès.
A service will be held at 10am on Saturday, October 6th at Givnish Funeral Home in Marlton.
