Larry K. Mead's Obituary
Larry K. Mead, of Edgewater Park, NJ passed away peacefully at his home on February 7th, 2025.
Born in Margaretville, NY, to the late Percy Kenneth Mead and Margaret (nee Johnson) Mead, he was 77 years old. Because his father was in the Air Force, Larry spent his childhood in Japan, Alaska, and multiple other states before his family settled in New Jersey.
A graduate of Burlington City High School, Class of 1965, Larry was a popular and well-liked student. He played varsity-level football, basketball, and baseball, and displayed a talent for fine arts. He later matriculated from the University of Dubuque, Iowa, in 1969. A long-time Plant Treatment Operator at Elizabethtown Water, later American Water, his career spanned close to 25 years.
Larry enjoyed playing in recreational softball leagues; helping out on the family farms in the Catskills; hosting visiting relatives and friends at his home, along with holiday gatherings, barbecues, and birthdays; and attending his childrens’, grandchildrens’, nieces’ and nephews’ sporting events. In recent years, the man affectionately called “Pop-Pop” could always be relied on to get the grandkids off to school, to listen to their stories, or just be there for a hug. The love of family was one of his guiding principles, his faith was a stable foundation that informed how he treated others - with kindness, generosity, and a gentleness of spirit.
Larry was the beloved husband of Kathy A. Mead (nee Depew) for 45 years; loving father of Derek Mead (Carla) and Sean Mead; cherished Pop-Pop of Peyton, Carter, and Harper; dear brother of David Mead (Patti), and the late Melody Olin. Larry is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends who will miss him greatly.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with his family at Givnish Funeral Home of Cinnaminson, 1200 Route 130 North, on February 14th from 10AM to 11AM; a Celebration of Life Service will follow. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Larry’s name may be made to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org).
