Linford F. Wilkins' Obituary
Linford F. Wilkins of Edgewater Park, NJ passed away on Friday, May 3, 2024 at the age of 88.
Lin was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1935. He enlisted in the US Army at age 19, and completed Basic Training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC. After completing additional training, Lin was selected to enter the Army Security Agency. On November 26, 1955, he married his high school sweetheart Frances M. Mullen and the newlyweds moved to Kenai, Alaska as part of Lin’s military assignment. They spent over two years together in Alaska until his active duty was completed. He was honorably discharged on April 8, 1958 and they returned to the Philadelphia area.
The couple eventually settled in Edgewater Park, NJ and Lin went back to school to complete his Associate Degree in Engineering from the Pennsylvania Institute of Technology. Lin was the loving father of Keith Wilkins and daughter-in-law Fiorella of Mount Laurel, Jeff Wilkins and partner Lenore Biscotti, and devoted and caring grandfather to Cody (Erin), Shawn, Hannah, Jeff, Nicole and Zachary and loving great-grandfather to Wesley and Olivia. He was predeceased by his loving wife Fran of 65 years in 2020.
Lin began his working career with ITT Nesbitt in 1959 in the Timekeeping Department. He worked his way through various positions with ITT and left the Torresdale location in 1974 as the Plant Manager. He was elected to the Nesbitt Hall of Fame in 2022. Lin worked at different manufacturing companies through the years, finishing his career at PowrMatic in Maryland at age 62. He then enjoyed retirement for over 25 years. He was an active member of St. Joseph’s Church in Beverly, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Knights of Columbus for a number of years. Lin was also a Boy Scout Scoutmaster for several years with Troop 24 in Beverly.
Lin loved spending time with his beloved wife Fran and their pets. After retirement, he purchased a 1966 Mustang and greatly enjoyed the time with his friends in the No Name Car Club of Edgewater Park for many years, winning numerous first place trophies at local car shows. He also enjoyed traveling with Fran all over the country.
Gathering of friends and family will occur from 7:00-9:00 pm on Wednesday, May 8th at Givnish Funeral Home 1200 Route 130 N Cinnaminson, NJ. Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 9th at Jesus the Good Shepherd Church at 805 Warren Street, Beverly, NJ at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at Monument Cemetery in Edgewater Park, NJ.
