Lisa Zimmaro's Obituary
Lisa (Nowak) Zimmaro of Cinnaminson, New Jersey passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with renal cell cancer on 03-18-2022 surrounded by her loving family.
Born November 13, 1957 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Stephen and Elizabeth Nowak and sibling to sister Janet and brother Steve. After graduating from Saint Hubert's high school, Lisa was employed in the personnel office of the Frankford Arsenal. She later transitioned to the healthcare industry managing claims for a malpractice insurance company. At the age 40 she went back to school for law. First attending Holy Family University, and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Humanities. Following that, Lisa enrolled in Temple University's School of Law, earning her Juris Doctor degree. She was licensed to practice law in the State of New Jersey. In 2003, Lisa was hired as the Risk Manager at Princeton University. And for 6 years managed workers compensation, property and casualty insurance. She joined Temple University in 2009 and was responsible for the University's domestic and international property and casualty insurance programs. Additionally, Lisa oversaw the Temple University's banking and treasury management department, tracking cash flow, liquidity and foreign exchange operations.
Lisa had been at Temple University for over 13 years and enjoyed every bit of her versatile and exciting work there. She would travel abroad to Temple's campuses in Rome and Tokyo overseeing risk management operations. In addition to her regular duties and her deep knowledge of risk management, Lisa was asked to teach a introductory course on risk management at Temples' Fox School of Business. And in 2011 Lisa became an Adjunct Professor in the risk Management and Insurance Department at Temple's Fox School of Business. Lisa excelled in every task and position she held at Temple. With broad oversight for Risk Management, Treasury, Insurance and Claims she was the Associate Vice President, Risk Management, Treasury for Temple University.
Lisa Zimmaro's list of accomplishments and awards are long and impressive. Teaching Award for Excellence in the Classroom- Fox School of Business-2012; Most Valuable Professor-Temple University's Women's Volleyball Team-2019; Member, Board of Directors of the University Risk Management and Insurance Association (URMIA) from 2013-current; Distinguished Risk Manager award (URMIA)-2021.
Lisa and Gary would of celebrated 45 years of marriage this year and were inseparable. A hard working, devoted and caring husband, Gary was unwavering in his love and support throughout her illness. She is survived by her loving husband Gary and Casi our new kitten, her children Dan (Ikumi) and her grandson Makoto, whom she adored and Rachel (Zach). She is also survived by her father Stephen and her sister Janet (Joe) and brother Steve, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Lisa's life on Thursday March 24th from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. with a service immediately following at 12 p.m., at Givnish Funeral Home, 1200 Route 130 N, Cinnaminson, NJ 08077. A private internment is to follow.
