In Loving Memory of Lonnie J. Clayton
6/20/1933 – 1/26/2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lonnie Clayton who went home to be with the Lord on January 26th, 2025, at the age of 91. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend who touched the lives of many with his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering faith.
Lonnie was born on June 20th, 1933, in Phenix City, AL. He grew up in fun-loving home with one sister and nine brothers. After serving in the Navy, Lonnie graduated from Auburn University (B.S.) and The University of Pennsylvania (M.E.). For 29 years, Lonnie worked as an engineer for RCA, GE, and Lockheed Martin All throughout his life, Lonnie enjoyed serving His Lord and Savior in various roles at local churches, as a member of the Gideons, and most recently as a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Lonnie lived a life dedicated to faith in God, his family, and service to others.
Lonnie was a devoted husband to his loving and caring wife Gloria, for 63 years. Together they built a home filled with love, joy, and adventure. He was a proud father to Julie, Steven, Matthew, and Janie; a cherished grandfather to Clayton, Katherine, Melissa, Andrew, Rebecca, Victoria, Joshua, Rachel, Paige, and Danielle; and a blessed great-grandfather to David, Riley, Bennett, and Brody. His legacy of love, faith, and generosity will continue to live on through his family and the countless lives he impacted.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church in Maple Shade, NJ on March 1st at 11:00 AM with visitation from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Immanuel Baptist Church or Samaritan Hospice in his honor.
Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit will remain forever in our hearts. As II Timothy 4:7 reminds us, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
Rest in peace, Lonnie. Your love and light will never be forgotten.
