Lorraine A. Martin passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, with her beloved husband, Sterling, by her side — just as she had always been by his, for a lifetime that began the very moment she first laid eyes on him.
Lorraine was born in Woodbury, New Jersey, and grew up in National Park, New Jersey, where her story with Sterling began on her family's front porch. Sitting beside her mother one ordinary afternoon, she watched a young man named Sterling walk by and, without a moment's hesitation, turned to her mother and declared, "That's the man I'm going to marry." She was right — and the two shared a lifetime of love that started with that single, certain glance.
She is the loving mother of Sterling A. Martin III (Maryellen) and Debra L. Martin (Brian Thompson), and the cherished grandmother of Eric W. Fanz Jr. and Samantha Lorraine Fanz. Lorraine was predeceased by her parents, Evelyn and George McGhee, and her brother, Eugene G. McGhee.
Family was the center of Lorraine's world, and she ran her household with warmth, confidence, and a take-charge spirit that kept everyone close. She never missed a chance to cheer from the sidelines at her children's sporting events, and she poured that same devotion into caring for everyone around her — family and friends alike. As a member of The Order of the Eastern Star and, in every sense, the ultimate caregiver, Lorraine made the people in her life feel looked after, loved, and never alone.
Lorraine also had a joyful, delightfully spirited side. She kept an exquisite collection of dolls that reflected her love of beauty and detail, and she was an enthusiastic collector at heart — dolls, Beanie Babies, bears, Barbies, handbags, shoes, and anything her grandchildren's hearts desired. Shopping wasn't just a pastime for Lorraine; it was another way of showing love.
Lorraine will be remembered for her devotion to family, her generous heart, and the certainty with which she loved — the same certainty she felt the day she first saw Sterling walking by. She leaves behind a family, and a legacy of love, forever grateful to have known her.
Celebration of Life
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Lorraine's life on Friday, July 10, beginning at 8:30 AM at Givnish's of Maple Shade, 600 E. Main Street, followed by her service at 11:30 AM.
Burial at the family crypt will be private.
