Louis Francis Purul's Obituary
Louis was born on April 23, 1936, in Chester, PA to Mary (McGinley) and Louis Purul. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia PA in 1959. He had a successful career in marketing, during which, he served as the Senior Vice President of Continental Bank, MidLantic Bank and PNC Bank. On June 17, 1961, he married his best friend, Veronica (Ronnie) Barnfield. They raised five beautiful daughters, Monica, Greer, Kara, Gwen and Heather. Lou also served his country in the Pennsylvania Army Reserve during which he was called to duty for the escalating Cuban Missile Crisis.
Above all else, Lou was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed being with his family and spending time at Long Beach Island. He combined his two favorite past times and bought a house at Long Beach Island in the 1960s. Since then, he and his best friend and wife of 58 years, Ronnie, spent summers there with family and friends. During his time on LBI he served as Commodore of the Spray Beach Yacht Club. He regularly spent early mornings drinking coffee on the porch with numerous family and friends or in contented solitude. He was always quick to engage in conversation, laugh, smile and offer a compliment or a positive word to all who would see him. He also enjoyed music an occasional scotch and his favorite cigar on the porch. When he left LBI it was to travel to Stuart, Fl for the winter, visit his grandkids or to attend a Philadelphia Eagles game of which he was a season ticket holder and avid fan for many decades.
Lou is survived by his wife Veronica, his five children, Monica (Patrick) Moeller, Greer Purul, Kara (Kieran) Kelly, Gwen (Dan) Goettle, and Heather (Vincent) McKearney and 16 beautiful grandchildren. His presence, wit, smile and caring will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
