Lyle L. Karn's Obituary
Lyle L. Karn passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at the age of 88 surrounded by his family. Born in Junction City, WI, Lyle was one of seven children. He grew up in the area around Hartford, WI, and after completing high school, Lyle joined the Air Force where he served along the West Coast and in Alaska. After completing his service, Lyle returned home where he met and married his bride of almost 66 years, Heidi. After spending six years as a Border Patrol Agent in Texas, Lyle had a very successful career with the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service which culminated in him being named the District Director for Philadelphia in 1979. A resident of Cherry Hill, NJ since that time, Lyle was the loving father of three children and their spouses: Kristine Karn & Gary Coates, Kelly Karn & Joseph Rainer and Eric & Amy Karn.
Lyle was also the beloved grandfather to eight grandchildren and five of their spouses: Sara Rainer & Paul Kennealy, Kathryn Coates & Tom Phillips, Joseph & Brianna Rainer, Emily Coates & Tyler Lowy, Austin & Stephanie Rainer, Gary Coates, Maxwell Karn, and Jackson Karn. In addition he had ten great-grandchildren: Joey, Conner, Lyle, Tommy, Charlie, Heidi, Sammy, Ben, Atticus and Adolin.
Lyle is predeceased by his parents Lillian Krubsack & Earl Karn and his siblings Alice, Laverne, Isla, Janie and Danny. He is survived by his sister Mary Sigrist, his sister-in-law Carole Karn, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Lyle was an active member of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Merchantville as an usher for over 35 years. He enjoyed reading, bowling, doing crossword puzzles and trips to Nags Head but especially loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday, August 29th from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Givnish of Cinnaminson 1200 Route 130 North. Lyle’s Memorial Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Church, Merchantville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either St. Judes Children’s Hospital (stjude.org) or Folds of Honor (Foldsofhonor.org).
