Margaret Mary Nelson's Obituary
Margaret Mary Nelson, nee Esposito, passed away in the evening of December 8th 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She lived 93 years full of life, laughter, adventure, and joy.
Margaret, known as Peggy, was born on August 27th, 1929 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She raised her family in Edgewater Park, New Jersey. She is survived by so many who loved her deeply, including her brother, John (Nancy), her four children: Peggy (Kevin) Buck, Charles, Michael, and Susan (James) Eichmann, nine grandchildren, Stephanie (Jimmy) Nguyen, Catherine, Megan, Maggie, Alexander, Aimee, Isabel, AJ, and Joshua, two great-grandchildren, Jack and James, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary and John, her sister, Mary, her brother, Joseph, and her beloved husband, Charles.
As her favorite singer Frank Sinatra once sang: she lived a life that was full, and she traveled each and every highway. Peggy traveled widely during her life, including Europe, Asia, the Caribbean, and throughout the United States. Her heart, though, was always at home. She was a passionate Philadelphia sports fan, and was especially devoted to the Phillies. She was a proud graduate of Little Flower High School, class of 1947, where she played the bass fiddle in the all-girls orchestra and performed at the Academy of Music. She continued her love for the performing arts throughout her life, championing her grandchildren’s school performances and regularly attending shows at the Walnut Street Theater.
She enjoyed playing pinochle, crossword puzzles, and bowling-- an activity that introduced her to Charles, her husband of nearly 50 years. In addition to raising their four children, Peggy worked for many years as an administrative assistant, and was a meticulous record keeper and diarist. She had many friends, including her longtime card club, many dear neighbors, and new ones from her time in the Masonic Village. She was a faithful parishioner at St. Joseph’s Parish in Beverly, then Sacred Heart in Mt. Holly, her deep Catholic faith carrying her through all of life’s challenges and joys. Peggy could always be counted on for a cup of tea and a warm hug, and was a true blessing to all who knew her.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, December 13th from 6pm to 8pm, at Givnish Funeral Home on Route 130 in Cinnaminson, and at 10am on Wednesday, December 14th at Sacred Heart Church in Mount Holly, followed by a mass of Christian Burial.
