I remember the first time that Jaslynn invited me to her grandparents, even though we had to keep a safe distance and wear a mask, it didn’t change how welcoming her grandparents were. I didn’t change the hospitality and the smile behind the mask or the laughter that was shared. I will never forget every time getting the chance to be in that household talking to a great man with a beautiful heart of gold and I will never forget that smile. Hey Pop,
You already know I’m not good at showing my feelings/emotions but there’s only so much a person can keep inside. My greatest love for animals came from watching you. We used to have that rabbit farm under the deck and I used to love to always go outside with you to help feed them. I named all of them. We even had Easter egg hunts and eggs used to be hidden in there. And the time I laughed at you for trying to catch a wild turkey by the fence because you thought you were still in PR. Pop was determined to catch that wild turkey, but who knew wild turkeys could fly because I sure didn’t. Pop went to grab him and that thing was out over that fence. He said “oh well I tried” and laughed. Oh! And the time I found out why there were so many dead bees in the backyard. I thought something was happening. Nope, one day I witnessed poppy using his fingers plucking those things outta mid air one by one. I’m like woah! People who have the most love for animals , always have the biggest hearts and that was pop. Let me tell you how shocked pop was when he learned I can work on cars and do whatever to make them look good and run. I put in a new alternator for his Monte Carlo and he came outside on the front porch with the biggest smile on his face saying “oh boy I girl in the family who works on cars!” Pop I will make sure that, that Monte Carlo stays in the family and have it running again like the good ole days; you watch. I love you pop. Watch over me. Til I see you again.
I have so many amazing memories off pop but one off my heartfelt memories off pop are the unconditional love he had for his family his whole entire family! The mother tht I am and continue to be is because off him! Pop was not perfect he was extraordinary he was an example off a father a husband and a grandfather and stepfather who ever needed one!!! I will cherish always his talks his stories and his small jokes tht sometimes I didn’t understand but his smile would light up a room , my lessons on rice making w a plate and a pot to always saying again !!!!! When I ate three plates off rice lol he was someone tht no matter how crazy things got pop had it all in control !!! He gave everyone a sense off protection no matter who u we’re pop was going to tell you everything will be ok !!!! I will miss him dearly god took back his angel !!! But we gained one love u pop and ty❤️❤️❤️ For loving us

I can go on for days about my fondest memories on union Ave. You weren't just a grandfather but the safe haven we all needed. From being thrown into the pool with our life jackets to learn how to swim, to pulling each and everyone of our teeth out with just a string and your bare hands. As scary as those thing may be for a child, you made me feel safe and I knew no matter the outcome I was okay because pop was here. The coffees in the morning and the rice puddings (without the raisins cause I hated them). The time when jazzy and I redid the whole front grass with you to your apple tree and homemade bikes you'd fix for us to ride. (Jaslynn did have the best experience with those though) I mean if any one person were to mention a "poppy hat" we all know what hat that was. Picking corn from the back yard with you and watering the flowers during the summer evenings. The best part of my life was built around your home. I will always miss hearing you call me your " little gringa" and watching those cowboys and Indian movies with you. I was truly blessed to have been raised by you and im so grateful I was able to show up and make you proud of the woman I'm becoming today. I love you pop to the fullest and I'm grateful you stuck around as long as you have because my kids got to experience the great man you are as well. I'll never stop missing you.
I just wanna say poppy I love you so much. Thank you for always being there for every milestone in my life. To birthdays, awards, prom, graduations, baby shower, being by my side during my car accident, the darkest period of my life. To also being there the day noa was born, the best day of my life. I’m going to miss you so much. You were my number one supporter, my best friend and my defender.
The memories we shared will stay by me forever. I will never forget your large hands, how I rubbed your knuckles to fall asleep. How you called me your sunshine because I always was mad. When you sang to me the sunshine song when I was laying in a hospital bed for months. I’ll never forget being 5 years old, climbing downstairs for our coffee dates. We dipped our Goya crackers & laughed about all the stories you told me about my dad & your family in Puerto Rico. I’ll never forget how you had a pan of rice pudding with raisins for me to take home every time I seen you. I definitely won’t forget picking the veggies in the back yard & the one time the garden snake attacked me and you laughed so hard because you said you never seen me run so fast! I’ll never forget you. Your absence brings me pain but the end to your suffering brings me peace. Your favorite line “I’m okay” … Rest now poppy, we’ll all be okay ♥️
