Marinell Grace Roberts' Obituary
December 14, 2020
Marinell Grace Roberts, a long-time active member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Philadelphia
passed away on December 8, 2020. Marinell had been under hospice care for several months and lived
in a nursing facility in New Jersey. Marinell was the beloved daughter of the late Harold and Florence
Roberts and the dear sister of the late Warren Fisher and the late Monroe Roberts. Marinell is survived
by a devoted sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Roberts, and a loving nephew, Michael M. Roberts.
Marinell served as a Christian Science nurse for at least four decades both in private practice, and at High
Oaks, Inc., a former Christian Science nursing facility in the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia. Marinell
worked at the Pennsylvania Bible Society, in Philadelphia, for many years, as well.
Marinell devoted herself to Christ Jesus command to “love one another “through prayer and gentle,
skillful, practical care to many who relied on Christian Science for healing over her years of service. She
was firmly rooted in the knowledge that we are all spiritual ideas, expressing Spirit’s qualities in unique
and distinctive ways. A favorite phrase of Marinell’s that she embraced and often repeated was
“…whatever blesses one, blesses all…” from the Christian Science textbook.
Mary Baker Eddy wrote in The First Church of Christ Scientist and Miscellany, “What am I? I am able to
impart truth, health, and happiness, and this is my rock of salvation and my reason for existing. Human
reason becomes tired and calls for rest. Goodness and benevolence never tire. They maintain
themselves and others and never stop from exhaustion. He who is afraid of being too generous has lost
the power of being magnanimous.”
A memorial service and interment were held at Lakeview Memorial Park on December 14, 2020. In lieu of flowers donations in Marinell’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (act.alz.org)
