Martin "Marty" Chesney's Obituary
Martin H. Chesney “Marty” passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Pennsylvania Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Philadelphia to the late Madeline Chesney and late Martin Goldberg, Marty was 65 years old. He grew up in Cinnaminson, NJ and was a resident of Delran for the last 23 years. He lived on Cook Bayou, Panama City, Florida with his family for a few years. It was his dream to return there.
Survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Carolynn (nee Costello). Loving father of Nicole Chesney, Valerie (Kenny) Forehand and Luke M. Chesney. Grandfather of Kendra Forehand and great grandfather of Liam. Brother of Denny (Deborah) Chesney (DJ, Jessica, and Carli); Kevin (Cheryl) Chesney (Dylan, Skye). Nephew to Aunt Loretta and Aunt Dee. He had many cousins, nieces and nephews too many to name but all of whom he loved.
Marty was an entrepreneur all of his life. Although he was the owner of Workplace Compliance Solutions, LLC for the past 15 years, he was blessed to have had many successful businesses and business associates that became lifelong friends.
Among his closest of friends is Bill W., whom he has known for over 35 years. What a gift.
It is difficult to sum up a man who was larger than life. His generosity was beyond measure and, yes, he would give you the “shirt off his back.” This Irishman could tell a story and above all, could make people laugh. His humor was infectious. He touched the life of every single person he met. He believed in people and second chances. When you sat down to talk to him you knew you were in for a “long story short” …ish.
He was a motorcycle enthusiast that spent countless Sundays and vacations on his bike with his wife and friends he called his brothers. He enjoyed boating, fishing and crabbing and longed to return to the waters of Cook Bayou.
Above all, Marty loved and protected, both of which he did fiercely. He was the person you wanted on your side and in your corner. He always believed in giving back, never giving a hand out and ALWAYS giving a hand up. He possessed a work ethic not many are fortunate to have. He was never still, never idle. Always had more projects and ideas than there was time, but managed to complete more in his 65 years than many other lifetimes combined.
Marty had an aching heart for the homeless and for 30 years or so prepared hot meals and delivered on his own to anyone he could find on the streets of Philadelphia on Christmas Eve.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Marty’s Life Celebration and gathering Sunday 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Givnish of Cinnaminson 1200 Route 130 North.
On Monday there will be a gathering of family and friends 9-9:45 a.m. at Christ Our Light Church 402 Kings Highway North, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002. His Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
