Martin A. Holtzapple's Obituary
Martin Holtzapple, age 94 years, passed away on March 14, 2021 at his home in Cinnaminson, NJ.
Martin was born in York, PA, to Kathryn and Melvin Holtzapple.
Martin served in the South Pacific with The U.S. Marine Corp in World War II. After recovering from wounds sustained at Iwo Jima, he was assigned to Admiral Chester Nimitz as an aide and driver. He was aboard The Missouri when Peace Treaty with Japan was signed.
He was a graduate of Westminster College, New Wilmington, PA, and did graduate work at Cornell and Columbia Universities.
In 1948, he married the former Ilona Stevenson in New Castle, PA. He joined The Atlantic Refining Co. (ARCO) in 1952 and remained with the company until he retired in 1986.
The Holtzapples lived in New Castle, PA, until 1961 when Martin was transferred to The Home Headquarters in Philadelphia, and they settled in Cinnaminson, NJ. Martin held several positions with ARCO; Director of Marketing Research, Manager of Home Heating Oil and Asphalt Sales, and CEO of Home Heating Oil Wholly Owned Subsidiaries.
He served as Chairman of Board of Directors of Zurburgg – Rancocas Hospitals and served 12 years on the Board of Trustees of Riverton Country Club.
Martin was a member of Covenant Presbyerian Church in Cinnaminson.
Martin was an avid golfer and enjoyed the camaraderie of his foursome of many years. He enjoyed reading and travel, but especially spending time with family and friends at Hilton Head, SC.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was pre-deceased by his parents; a brother, Melvin, a son-in-law Ronald Paul and his wife of 62 years Ilona J. Holtzapple.
Loving father of Deborah Stone and her wife Ellen Server, Leslie Paul and Kimberly Bruin and her husband Robert. Grandfather of Thomas Stone, Courtney Stone, Jacob Paul, Elizabeth Paul and Jessica Paul.
A memorial service will be held in the future at Covenant Presbyterian Church, Cinnaminson, NJ.
