Mary E. O'Neill's Obituary
Mary E. O’Neill (née Donegan), of West Chester, PA, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was 85 years old.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Francis and Mary (née Schofield) Donegan; her beloved husband of 57 years, John J. O’Neill; her cherished daughter, Maureen Ellen O’Neill; and her siblings, Francis and Frederick Donegan.
She is survived by her loving children, Mary Kate Sabatino (Thomas), John O’Neill (Gina), and Kevin O’Neill (Melanie). She was the cherished grandmother of Alyssa Thomas (Pat), Conor O’Neill, Bryan O’Neill, and Ethan O’Neill, and proud great-grandmother of Carson Thomas, Vivian MacIntyre, and Isla MacIntyre. She is also survived by her dear siblings, Edwin Donegan and Bernadette Lonergan, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss her greatly.
Mary was known for her strength, generosity, and unmistakable spirit. Tough as nails yet deeply kind, she had a warm smile and a wonderful laugh that brought comfort and joy to those around her. A hardworking and selfless mother, she always put her family first and was fiercely devoted to her husband. Through life’s many ups and downs, Mary and John shared a rock-solid marriage built on love, loyalty, and faith.
A woman of deep faith and prayer, Mary was very involved in St. Joan of Arc Church, where she and John faithfully served for many years as the accountants for the parish carnival. She was protective of the people she loved and never a pushover, but she believed strongly in forgiveness and second chances when an apology was offered.
Mary enjoyed shopping, spending time with family, and in her later years, playing poker and relaxing with her beloved “happy hour” martinis. Her resilience was especially evident after the loss of her husband, and she continued to live with strength, grace, and devotion to those she loved.
She will be remembered as a strong, faithful woman whose love for her family never wavered.
