Melissa Foti's Obituary
Melissa Foti, 50, of Maple Shade, NJ, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on September 4, 2025. Born in Toms River, NJ, on October 5, 1974, she was the cherished daughter of Peter C. Foti Sr. and the late Carole (nee Curley). She will be deeply missed by her father, her brother Peter Foti Jr., her extended family, her many friends, and her beloved animals.
Melissa, affectionately known as “Mel,” lived life with a style and energy that was all her own. She had a huge personality—sparkly, stubborn, and fiercely confident—and she never hesitated to speak her mind or stand her ground. Mel had a way of lighting up a room simply by being herself, and her authenticity drew people to her.
Animals were the greatest loves of her life. She was a proud “fur mama” to her dog Puddin, her cat Diva, her sugar gliders Bougie, Savage, and Ratchet, and Izzy, her boa constrictor. She adored her pets above all else and considered them her most valuable treasures. In fact, Mel left behind a note reminding her loved ones that if her animals were not responsibly rehomed, she would “come back and haunt anybody.” That was Mel—direct, funny, and serious about what mattered most to her.
When she wasn’t caring for her pets, Mel loved being outdoors. She could often be found sitting on her porch, feeding the birds, watering her plants, and enjoying the quiet company of nature. Her home was her sanctuary, and she filled it with bright colors, sparkles, and especially her favorite shade of teal. Everything she touched reflected her vibrant personality—simple at times, eccentric at others, but always true to who she was.
Mel also had a lifelong passion for reading. She loved getting lost in the suspenseful pages of Dean Koontz novels as well as the warmth and escape of romance stories. Books were her constant companions, offering her both adventure and comfort throughout her life.
Even through her illness, Mel’s character never wavered. She remained strong, stubborn, and uniquely herself until the very end, showing the same confidence and sparkle that defined her life.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Sunday, September 14th, at Givnish of Maple Shade, 600 E. Main Street, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with her memorial service beginning at noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Melissa’s name may be made to One Love Animal Rescue at www.oneloveanimalrescue.org, a cause close to her heart.
Melissa’s memory will live on in the laughter she inspired, the animals she adored, the stories she treasured, and the sparkle she brought to everyone who knew her.
