Mildred “Millie” Shappell
On Thursday, January 14th, Millie Shappell, age 94, peacefully passed on surrounded by family, the wonderful nurses at Runk & Pratt, Liberty Ridge and the Seven Hills Hospice Team.
She was born in Philadelphia to John and Anna May Marvitz on January 6, 1922 and raised in Delair, NJ. Prior to marriage she worked at RCA. In 1945 she married Frank Shappell and became a mother and homemaker who loved decorating, gardening, ceramics, and her time at the Jersey shore. She moved from New Jersey to Lynchburg in 2007 and settled in at The Summit where she could be found playing Dominoes every night of the week or having dinner with her special friends Peggy, Treva, Bea, and Anita. As health necessitated, she moved to an Assisted Living facility where she lived out her life doted on by wonderful friends and health care professionals.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband Frank and son Robert of Vermont. She is survived by a daughter Joan Di Leo (Joe) of Cinnaminson, NJ, daughter Janice Silk of Lynchburg, VA, daughter-in-law Mary Shappell of VT, and granddaughters Susan Di Leo (Fred) of NJ, Kristi Howey (John) of NJ, Kate Collins (Tim) of VT, Erin Sourdiff (Collin) of VT, Andrea Wells (Richard) of Concord, VA, and Jennifer Martin (Eric) of Concord, VA. She had nine great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to Millie’s Life Celebration Friday, February 5th from 10-11AM at Snover Givnish’s of Cinnaminson, 1200 Route 130 N.
