Nebil Najdat Al-Shawaf's Obituary
Nebil Najdat Al-Shawaf, of Bordentown, NJ, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2022 at 76 years of age.
Born in Innsbruck, Austria to the late Najdat Abdul Razzak and Suad Al-Shawaf (nee Charlotte Meier), was the beloved father of Hala Suad Al-Shawaf (Michael Barson), dear brother of Bassil Al-Shawaf (Hanan) and Muna Al-Shawaf, and uncle of Rayyan, Tameem, and Laith. He is also survived by many extended family members and friends who will miss him.
A lifelong lover of Rhythm & Blues music and avid bass guitarist, Nebil graduated from Baghdad College High School at age 16, pursued undergraduate studies in Bournemouth, England and Lagos, Nigeria. He received his BA Degree from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon in 1971 and a Master’s Degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Washington D.C. in 1978 where he concentrated in Middle Eastern Studies. He maintained his interest in world history and international affairs all his life. He had a long career in international and domestic institutional banking with Philadelphia National Bank which later became CoreStates & other successors, followed by a career in private financial services.
In addition to making a home over the last 45 years in the US, in the first three decades of his life Nebil lived in Egypt, Libya, Iraq, Britain, Lebanon, and Italy.
