Paul V. Burcher, 93, of Cherry Hill, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on September 29, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Camden, NJ on May 26, 1931, to Edgar and Theresa Burcher, Paul lived a life full of love, laughter, and devotion. He was the beloved husband of Catherine Burcher (née Day) for more than 67 years, their bond an inspiring testament to enduring love.
Paul was a cherished father to Tom Burcher (Margaret), Ed Burcher (Heather), Maureen Boush (Mike), and the late Mark Burcher. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Sean (Ellie), Brenna, Kelsey, Colleen (Jared), Hayley, Laura (Kevin), Catherine, Sarah, and Daniel, and a great-grandfather to Sawyer, Eva, Noah, and Jesse. He will be deeply missed by many extended family members and dear friends.
Raised in Berlin, NJ, Paul graduated from Haddon Heights High School and spent his childhood summers in Cape May, NJ, where he would later meet the love of his life, Catherine. The couple eventually settled in Cherry Hill to raise their family, but Paul's heart always returned to Cape May, where he spent countless weekends and summers with his loved ones with extended time after retiring.
Paul had a distinguished career in the insurance industry, mainly with Metropolitan and finally retiring with Prudential, and instilled a strong work ethic in his children. He was always deeply involved in their lives, serving as a Scoutmaster and volunteering for school activities like the band as well as a being a Poll Worker for all elections. A man of many talents, Paul was a master handyman who took great pride in maintaining his family’s homes in Cape May, especially the historic three-story Victorian home from the 1800’s.
Known for his quick wit and sense of humor, Paul was a joyful prankster who delighted in making those around him laugh. His generosity knew no bounds, as he was always seeking ways to lend a hand to friends and family. Whether fixing something around the house or surprising his grandchildren with treats, special coins, Hess Trucks and jewelry, Paul’s love was felt by all who knew him.
Above all, Paul will be remembered for the boundless devotion he showed to his family. His love for Catherine, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was his greatest legacy, and they will carry his memory in their hearts forever.
