I was writing to cousin Peter today, having gotten his email from Aunt Sally Meyer over the holidays. I was shocked to find his obituary online!

"Dear Cousin Peter,

Happy New Year. It has been way too long since we communicated!

Time has a way of getting past us sometimes. I may not have been in direct contact with Peter for a long time - but that does not mean I was not thinking of him and following his life's progress via conversations with Uncle Andy Meyer.

I have inherited, one way or another from different family members, the Meyer archives and have recently been putting together Uncle Alton's pictures and memorabilia from early childhood, to high school, to B17 Army Pilot. It was my intent to present Peter with his father's legacy as well as his entire Meyer family's. I am devastated that I have missed that opportunity.

I would love to hear from the Peter Meyer family and reconnect our bonds and share our history.

SEAS OF LIFE, OCEANS OF LOVE

PETE WAS A MAN LIKE NO OTHER,
AND THOUGH NOT RELATED I STILL CALLED HIM BROTHER.
A MOUNTAIN OF A MAN WITH A TOWERING PRESENCE,
WHOSE EXISTENCE, FOR ME, SEEMED A NATURAL OCCURRENCE.

FOR PETE WAS A TEACHER AND GREAT GIVER OF LIGHT
WITH WISDOM AND GUIDANCE THAT WOULD CHANGE MANY LIVES.
HE SHOWED WHAT IT MEANS TO PUT OTHERS FIRST
TO GIVE IT YOUR ALL , AND GIVE TILL IT HURTS.

HIS PASSION FOR LIVING WOULD NOT BE DENIED,
EVEN WHEN OTHERS SAID “DON’T EVEN TRY.”
AND YES HE FELL DOWN, WHO AMONG US HASN’T,
THE DIFFERENCE WITH PETE WAS THE WAY HE COULD MANAGE,
TO GET RIGHT BACK UP AND PUSH BRAVELY ON.
MORE DETERMINED THAN EVER TO PROVE THEM ALL WRONG.

AND YES WE WILL GRIEVE FOR WE ALL LOST A FRIEND,
A MAN WHO INSPIRED US RIGHT TO THE END.
NOW BACK TO THE SEA AND THE OCEANS HE LOVED
COMFORTABLY CRADLED IN GOD’S LOVING ARMS.
