Randy Lee Yontz's Obituary
Master Sergeant Randy Lee Yontz, 67 years old, of Marlton NJ passed away Tuesday, July 19th at Virtua Marlton Hospital due to health complications.
Randy is preceded in death by his mother and father, Ruth Louise Doss and Mark William Yontz, three sisters; Gloria Yontz, Teenia Lynn Doss, Stephanie Harrison & brother, Mark Yontz; mother in law Florence Griffin.
Randy Lee Yontz was born on November 9, 1954 in Martinsburg, West Virginia to the late Mark William Yontz and Ruth Louise Harrison Doss. Randy later spent his youth in Gretna, VA where he farmed and worked on a dairy farm before joining the military in 1973. Randy’s military career began with basic training at Ft. Dix, NJ and proceeded onto parachute school at Ft. Benning, GA. Randy spent several years overseas including duty stations in Europe and Alaska. He returned to the states for the majority of his military career at Ft. Bragg, NC and finished his career in Philadelphia, PA at Defense Supply Center Philadelphia. Randy was with Special Forces groups throughout his career where he received various awards, medals, and accreditations including a Purple Heart Recipient, the Joint Meritorious Award, SERE School completion, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, 2 Defense Service Medals, Army Achievement Medal, 3 Army Commendation Medals, and many more. He served his country in the United States Army for more than 25 years.
Randy had many hobbies that he enjoyed which included woodworking and crafts. He served as an Officer in his Local Marlton Elks #2514 Lodge. Randy loved his Elks family and served as Lodge #2514 Exalted Ruler for 2 years. Randy also enjoyed camping and going on trips with his wife, Kathy and dogs. Randy was an exceptional chef as well and in his free time he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Restaurant Management & Culinary Arts. He also furthered his military and civilian personnel career by earning his Master’s Degree in Logistics Management & Acquisitions.
Randy was loved by many and was thought of as an exceptional man, husband, father, soldier, and wonderful story teller.
Randy is survived by his loving wife Kathryn Griffin Yontz of the residence, son Jeffrey Adam Yontz of Raeford, NC, daughter Stephanie Marie Gray of Newark, DE, grandson Mace Garland Gray of Newark, DE. and loving Dachsund Charlie William Yontz.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday, July 26th, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Givnish of Marlton, 398 East Main Street. The Marlton Elks will be conducting a service at 9:30 a.m.
Randy Lee’s Memorial Mass will follow 10 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Church 100 Willow Bend Road, Marlton.
Inurnment, with Military Honors, will take place at Brigadier General William C. Doyle/NJ Veterans Cemetery at 12:30 p.m.
The family will receive friends starting 2 p.m. at the Marlton Elks #2514 Lodge 426 Evesboro-Medford Rd. Marlton, NJ for refreshments and to continue celebrating Randy Lee’s life.
