Reginald L. Baker's Obituary
A Time To Be Born
Reginald Luellen Baker, also known as “Uncle Boo-Boo” or “Reggie” to his family, was born on April 2, 1933 in Norfolk, Virginia. He was one of nine children born to the late Jessie Mae and William Baker.
A Time To Plant
Reggie received his formal education through the Norfolk school system. Upon graduation from Booker T. Washington High School in 1952, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served from 1953 – 1955. He then transitioned to the Army Reserve serving until his retirement in 1980 as a First Sergeant for a total of 25 years of dedicated service to the nation.
Reggie’s field of employment was as a meat cutter. His career began with Colonial Stores in Virginia and continued when he moved to New Jersey where he became employed by the A&P Supermarkets (Superfresh). He retired after 30 years with the company as a meat manager. He loved his job and took pride in the work he did.
A Time To Build Up
Reggie received the Lord at an early age. He was baptized and became a member of the First Baptist Church in Berkley, Virginia. Macedonia Temple Baptist Church became his church home after he relocated to New Jersey. He was a faithful and devoted member serving as President of the Ushers and on the Board of Trustees.
Reggie was a co-founder of the Homestead Youth Association, a community organization established to mentor youth. He was a volunteer in all activities which included field trips, camping (summer camp) and fund raising. He was endeared with the name “Uncle Reggie”.
A Time To Love and Laugh
Reggie met his beloved wife, Joyce Cook, through mutual friends. They were married on August 20, 1966 after a whirlwind courtship of one year. They were blessed with three children.
Reggie enjoyed life, especially those times with his family, at cookouts and family vacations. He had a wonderful sense of humor and an easy smile. He loved working in his yard, watching old-time western and military movies, and cheering on the Eagles and the Phillies. He also enjoyed Gospel music, especially the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir.
A Time To Mourn
Reggie leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Joyce, 3 Children: Vicki Baker-Mahone, Donyale Warner (Ronald), Scott Baker (Lynda), special daughter Angela Parker; Grandchildren: Devon Baker and Nevaeh Warner; one Godson, Reginald Garrett; One brother, Richard Baker (Shirley); One sister, Nellie Suter (Andrew) and a host of nephews and nieces, cousins and other relatives and friends.
A Time To Dance
Reggie left this earthly realm on September 20, 2022 to rejoice in heaven, to dance in the presence of the Lord and to join his pre-deceased family members.
