Richard P. Hyland's Obituary
Richard P. Hyland passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 19, 2022 at Virtua Hospital in Willingboro. Born in Mt. Holly to William A. and Evalyn Hyland, Rich was 80 years old. He was a resident of Edgewater Park for the last 59 years. Beloved husband of 59 years to Sue Ann (nee George). Loving father of Marilyn Hyland, Daniel (Jennifer) Hyland and the late Tammy Hyland. Cherished Pop to Heather (Eric) Young, Rebecca (Jon) Scheuerer, Sean Coyle, Alexis Hyland and Colin Hyland. Great grandfather to Rylie Young and Raegan Young. Brother of James “Ron” Hyland, the late Claire Lanza and the late William “Roy” Hyland. And Uncle Rich to many nieces and nephews.
Pop, as he was known to most, was a man of few words and a heart of gold. He was an avid Phillies fan, sticking by them in the best of times and even the worst. He loved to watch Harry Potter marathons, read books, and trace his family’s tree. He was a man who loved to sail and even restored his own sailboat once. It’s maiden voyage had its “bumps” and needed a rescue, but that did not stop the grin that spread across his cheeks.
Pop was a true animal lover. He is survived by 6 grandpuppies and 1 grandcat, who he spoiled with treats when no one was looking. Pop’s best friends and four legged companions, Bear and Jack, were by him here on Earth and now sit like “good boys” by Pop’s feet in Heaven. We know they were anxiously begging for their evening walks upon their reunion.
His love for his family was profound. From Thursday night dinners to weekly trips for ice cream and Rita’s Water Ice. The Memorial Day parade and volleyball games, that always ended with someone being injured. Those were the moments that Poppy lived for and these are memories that the family will cherish for a lifetime.
A gathering of family and friends will be held this Thursday from 6 - 8 p.m. at Givnish of Cinnaminson 1200 Route 130 North.
