Dr Brill (Bob) was a major influence on my life for 20 years while I was dating/married to his daughter. When I initially met him, I had instant respect - appreciating the fact that as an Orthopedic surgeon he could dislocate joints as easily as relocating them and the fact I was dating his daughter at the time.
I learned a great deal from Bob, mostly by just observing him. He had the quickest wit of anyone I knew, but he was mostly the silent type. When he had a one-liner response it was a belly-laugh guaranteed. Probably the most influential lesson I learned from Bob was to remain calm. That was not my nature at the time I met him, but keeping a level head has served me well in life and I owe that to him. Bob's wisdom through tough times was equally valuable to his one-liners through happy times.
If Bob got vocal about something, you knew it was going to be GREAT! I could write a book about some of those moments. I am smiling as I type this.....
If you ever had an ailment you could always count on Bob for a free medical evaluation, although if it was orthopedic-related you had to be prepared for “Tell me…does this hurt?” (YOW!)
I loved listening to his stories of submarine days and medical school. I loved working on yard projects, stacking firewood, fishing and relaxing with him. I loved laughing with him. I loved his influence as a father-in-law as well as his influence as a grandfather to my girls. Bob sometimes shared things with me that I don’t think he shared with many, and that was very special. When I became divorced from his daughter, the loss of his direct friendship was a huge blow to me.
It was a privilege to know him and although he is gone, rest assured he is not forgotten.
Thanks for everything Bob. - love Lance
