Robert Michael Cooney's Obituary
Robert Michael Cooney, 80, of Cinnaminson, NJ, passed away suddenly on February 19, 2026. Born in Philadelphia, PA, on July 7, 1945, he was the son of the late James and Anna Cooney (née Lassig).
Robert was the beloved husband of Shirley Watson Cooney (née Crowe). Devoted father to Robert “Bob” John Cooney (Chrissy) and James “Jim” Cooney. Proud and loving grandfather to Lauren, Cati, and Arianna. He was predeceased by his brothers Carl, Fred, and Jim. He will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1969 — a chapter of his life he remained proud of forever. He worked at Cigna Insurance Company, where he formed many lifelong friendships. After leaving Cigna, he started his own business and was later contracted back, allowing him to continue working alongside the colleagues he cherished.
A passionate Philadelphia Eagles fan, Robert rarely missed a game and cheered on his team with enthusiasm. Above all, he loved his family. He was incredibly proud of his grandchildren and treasured every moment spent with them. He enjoyed traveling and vacationing, especially cruises. Robert also had a creative spirit and a wonderful sense of humor. He loved creating home videos and comedic skits and even competed in the Philadelphia Media Market “Turkey Tapes” competition for his comedy videos.
