Robert Joseph Gills Sr.'s Obituary
Robert Joseph Gills, Sr., of Cherry Hill, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on October 4, 2025, at the age of 82.
Born in Bluefield, WV, Robert was a proud coal miner’s son and carried those hardworking, humble roots with him throughout his life. He was the beloved husband of the late JoAnna Elizabeth (née Percival), with whom he shared 62 years of loving marriage before her passing in March 2022.
Robert was the devoted father of Leona Hughes (John), James Gills, Robert Joseph Gills Jr. (Joan), JoAnn Pignatelli (Gregory), and the late Ronald Gills. He was cherished by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will deeply miss his warmth and wit.
Predeceased by his parents, Clyde Jackson and Gertrude (née Kinzer) Gills, Robert is remembered as the sweetest, kindest, and gentlest soul. His love for his family was unwavering, and his unforgettable one-liners brought smiles to all who knew him.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and quiet strength.
Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside service at Locustwood Memorial Park, 1500 Marlton Pike West, Cherry Hill, NJ, on Thursday October 9th at 2 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Robert may be made to the Animal Welfare Association in Voorhees, NJ, www.awanj.org.
