Robert Hurley's Obituary
Robert David Hurley “Ozzie”, 95, of Medford Lakes, NJ, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2023 with his family by his side. Born in Jersey City to the late Joseph and Mary Hurley (nee Kiernan). Devoted husband to Patricia Hurley (nee LaMorte) for 67 years. Loving father to Robert Hurley (Kristin) and the late Mary Kiernan Hurley. Grandfather to Lindsay Guertler, John Robert Guertler, Brynn Hurley, Braeden Hurley, and Maggie Hurley. Great grandfather to Juliana Ravenstahl and Brooklyn Ravenstahl. Brother to the late Joseph Francis Hurley (Audrey) and the late Mary O’Herlihy (Dermot). He will be missed by many cousins, nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.
Ozzie graduated from Teaneck High School in NJ. After graduation, he joined the Navy and served in WWII. He attended and played football for Gettysburg College. Later, he joined the Army where he proudly served for 26 years, serving in the Vietnam and Korean Wars and was a member of the 3rd Us Infantry Regiment aka “Old Guard” at Arlington Cemetery in Virginia. He retired as a decorated Lieutenant Colonel. After the Army, Ozzie was the General Manager of Six Flags Great Adventure. Upon retirement, he enjoyed golfing with friends and spending time at his house in Long Beach Island, NJ.
A gathering of friends and family will be held on Monday, May 1st from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Givnish of Marlton, 398 E. Main Street. Ozzie’s funeral mass will take place Tuesday, May 2nd at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Marlton at 11:00am. Burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ozzie’s name may be made to the Disabled American Veterans https://www.dav.org/.
