Robert "Smitty" Smith's Obituary
Robert William Smith, affectionately known as “Smitty” to those who knew and loved him, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026. Born in Philadelphia, PA, to the late John Leslie Smith and Olga Bertell Morris, he was 87 years old.
He is predeceased by his siblings Flora Ilconich, Ross Smith, and Dorothy Tabel.
He is survived by his nieces and nephews: Joann Leavey (Ron), Sandy Rose (James Evans), Robert Ilconich (Jennifer), Thomas Ilconich (Susan), Michael Tabel (Lori), and Michele Nelligan (Chris), as well as many great nieces and great nephews.
A lifelong resident of Riverton, Smitty was a proud graduate of Palmyra High School, where he was well known for his playful personality and love of practical jokes. He joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country. He spent many years as a caddy at Riverton Country Club, combining his strong work ethic with his lifelong love of the game of golf.
Smitty found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved golfing, swimming, traveling, spending time with his family, and going out to eat—especially if pizza or breakfast was on the menu. He had a deep appreciation for classic doo-wop music, and his warm, fun-loving spirit made him a pleasure to be around. Quirky, kindhearted, and always willing to lend a helping hand, Smitty was especially known for giving rides to anyone who needed one. His generosity, humor, and caring nature left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Smitty will be remembered for his infectious sense of humor, his willingness to help others without hesitation, and the love he shared with his family and friends. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who were touched by his kindness and joyful spirit.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at Givnish of Cinnaminson, 1200 Route 130 North, on Thursday, July 23rd from 10 – 11 am. A service will begin at 11 am, followed by interment at 1 pm at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veteran Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Road, Wrightstown, NJ.
