Robert W. Walters
Robert W. Walters, age 87, of Cinnaminson, NJ, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. Born at home in Moorestown, NJ, on June 4, 1937, Robert was the beloved son of John and Bridget Helen Walters (nee McNamara). A devoted husband for 44 years to Mary Walters (nee Georgetti), he was also the cherished father of Kevin Walters (Susan) and Keith Walters (Claire), and a loving grandfather to Kelsey (Clark), Colin, Carly (Frank), and Shauna. His legacy lives on through his great-grandchildren, Owen, Ryan, and Ava. Robert is also remembered by his former spouse, Joyce Walters (nee Franke), and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was predeceased by his siblings: John, Donald, Margaret, Andy, Dave, and Richard.
Robert grew up in Moorestown, where his family ran the Luncheonette on 3rd Street. An accomplished swimmer and diver in high school, he left early to serve his country with pride in the U.S. Navy aboard the Battleship New Jersey. As a Quartermaster, 3rd Class, in the Navigation Department, he dedicated himself to his role with unwavering loyalty, a commitment he continued as a member of the American Legion for 54 years. Years later, Robert played an instrumental role in bringing the Battleship New Jersey to Camden, NJ, for public visitation. His dedication was recognized with numerous awards and the honor of meeting many dignitaries. Visitors to the ship today can see a life-size cutout of Robert with his crewmates, preserving his legacy.
Throughout his life, Robert was a man of many talents. He was a licensed arborist, contributing his expertise to Moorestown and Haddonfield townships and running his own business, Tree Surgeon. It was while landscaping at Echelon Mall that he met his beloved Mary. Together, they enjoyed time boating along the Delaware River and tending their garden. Known for his exceptional whistling, Robert’s cheerful tunes brought smiles to friends and family. He was an avid fan of Notre Dame and Navy football, sparking a good-natured rivalry with Mary, a dedicated Army fan.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, November 10th, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Givnish of Cinnaminson, 1200 Route 130 North, followed by his funeral service at 4:00 pm.
