Sandra L. Hansen's Obituary
Sandra Hansen, a cherished resident of Cambridge Senior Living in Moorestown, NJ peacefully passed away on January 25th, 2024. She had the privilege of living 78 years of a blessed and fulfilling life.
Sandra was born in Santa Monica, CA on November 26th, 1945, to her late parents, LeRoy and Dottie Maule. She later moved to the San Francisco area where she met her husband Lloyd “Skip” Brandenburg (deceased). They lived in the Santa Cruz area before moving to Port Townsend, Washington in 1979. Together they raised their twin daughters, Lisa & Erika, built a house in the woods, and worked on building a boat to sail around the world. Like many couples, they each had different dreams for the future and eventually parted ways. She rebuilt her life focusing on raising her daughters and working as an administrative assistant in education before her move to New Jersey in 1999.
Once in New Jersey, Sandy adjusted to the differences between the East and West Coasts (except the Summer heat!). She enjoyed visiting Cape May, especially the Zoo, taking her grandchildren on adventures in Philadelphia, and could be counted on to make great pie at the holidays. She worked at Our Lady of Lourdes in Camden for nearly 20 years as an administrative assistant.. She was an animal enthusiast who always had room for “one more” kitty. She would spend her last dollar on food for all the strays and “back door” cats in the neighborhood. She had such a kind and tender heart for her kitties.
Sandy loved her family and friends fiercely. She had a lifelong drive to make things better for others - she marched in political protests throughout her life, advocated strongly for animal welfare, and spent countless hours working on the annual holiday toy drive at Lourdes. During her time at Cambridge, she served as the vice president of the Cambridge Residence Council where she advocated strongly to make changes that would benefit all the residents, not just her personal situation. She was so loved by the staff and residents and several residents fondly spoke about the new activities she helped advocate for, especially the “happy hour” and pizza with the Eagles Football games.
She was a devoted mother to Lisa Brandenburg and Erika Vincent and loving sister to Bill Maule (Dianne) and Dave Maule. She took immense pride in her role as a grandmother to Emily Salowe (Daniel), Rachael Whitley, Danielle Whitley, Heather Norris (Derek), and Sonia Ray (James). She also had the joy of being a great grandmother to Ben, Keaton, Jack, Tony, and Jason. She was very grateful to get to experience the delight of meeting yet another generation of the family. Sandra’s warmth and love will be deeply missed by extended family members and friends.
She leaves behind a legacy of personal strength, love, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her family is forever grateful for the loving care she received from the staff of Hartford Glen at Cambridge Senior Living.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Sandy’s memory to an animal rescue organization of donors choice or Alzheimers Association (www.alz.org)
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Sandra’s life on Saturday, February 3, 2024. Visitation beginning at 10:00 am with memorial service following at 11:00 am at Givnish of Marlton located at 398 East Main Street, Marlton NJ 08053.
