Shirley was My Favorite Sister n Law but she was like a Sister. I remember Those Thanksgiving Dinners at Our House and How she would praise me for the Prayers I would say. I remember she always loved those Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Bread sticks at Pizza Hut when Her and Ralph would visit us. I remember How she and Doris loved to make up those Christmas Baskets and Doris and I would either go to Her House in Jersey or Her and Ralph Would come to our house in Pa.
I Will always Love you Shirley. May you Rest with God and I know You, Your Sister Doris and Your Mother Ruth are Together again.
Shirley was my Mother's life long best friend. I remember all the vacations together at the shore. She was my Aunt Shirley and very much family. She and Uncle Ralph were always there to support us. I will always cherish the memories and miss her dearly.
Shirley was my neighbors mom that’s how we got to know this lovely lady. She always had a smile on her face, was upbeat and friendly. God rest your soul. She put up a good fight. Joe & Maryann
Where to start, I have so many wonderful memories of Mrs. Hawes, then Shirley to me as I grew older. We met when Karen and I were in 7th grade. From staying in her home, Ocean City vacations... I have always enjoyed Shirl's company, infectious laugh and conversation, usually quite colorful and with a laugh. She fought a tough fight and was there for me when my own mother passed. I am so thankful and honored to have known her for so long and I treasure every memory. She will be greatly missed. My first memories of Mrs Hawes were as a room mother when I was in elementary school. Not only did her daughter Karen and I become friends but so did my mother and Shirley as they worked together for each school event. Shirley was always so sweet and so quiet, kind of like the Yin to my moms Yang. My mom was 20 years Shirleys senior and you would never have known that was the case. I remember having Shirleys baby shower in our living room when she was expecting Scott. Their friendship grew over the years and withstood my mom retiring to Florida. Shirley was the one to help her move back home when my dad passed. Shirley was also my rock and my go to when I needed to vent about the difficulties I faced when caring for my mom after she had moved in with me when her health was failing. Shirley always listened to me and gave me the guidance I needed or the shoulder to cry on......always so very much her character to be concerned, caring and supportive. I will never forget how much she was my safety net during those very difficult times. Her strength and courage also showed through as she battled cancer. A new and very feisty side of Shirley showed itself too and also gave us a few good laughs (as her expletive vocabulary, one that would have otherwise gotten me in trouble, came to the forefront for her.) Shirl you gave it your all just like everything else you did. Thank you for being such a special part of my moms life and my own. I will always hold in my heart your welcoming smile and genuine hugs, (and awesome cheese pie!). I am thankful and fortunate to have had you as a part of my life over the years. Love you girl, hope you and Deanie have a few laughs at your reunion. My thoughts and prayers are with all the family at this difficult loss.

Mrs. Hawes was wonderful too me growing up on Drexel Street. She was the nicest individual you could ever meet and she made the entire neighborhood better each and every day. We are all better people for knowing her.
