Steven Paul Winkler's Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Steven Paul Winkler announces his passing at the age of 68 years on September 12, 2024. He was beloved husband of Joanne Marie Winkler, nee Wyatt.
Pre-deceased by his parents, Anson Danes Winkler and Jean Margaret Brody.
Steve was the loving father of Steven Richard Winkler (Cami), Erik Anson Winkler (Trisha) and Jennifer Marie Black. He was the doting grandfather of Deanna Marie Winkler, the late Kayla Anne Winkler, Austin Alan Winkler, Justin Daniel Winkler and Chase Steven Winkler. He was the much-loved brother to the late Anson Danes Winkler, the late Debra Knight and Sandra Campbell, brother-in-law to Rosemary (Armond) Binni, Donna Wyatt, Russell Wyatt and Christopher Wyatt. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Born and raised in South Jersey, Steve was an avid Philadelphia sports teams fan but especially the Phillies. Steve had so much love for baseball that he coached his son’s youth baseball teams for many years and dedicated countless hours to the Moorestown Youth Baseball Federation. Steve was a published author, having written the book "Counted Out" "The Battle That Never Ends" which chronicled his battle with non-testicular cancer. His battle began at the age of 26 when he received the devastating diagnosis. He would live 40+ years cancer free. After his treatment he went on to volunteer with the Camden County chapter of the American Cancer Society. In 1984 he received a plaque recognizing his efforts in organizing the 1984 Swim Marathon. He was also awarded a plaque from the Camden County Unit of the American Cancer Society for the 1984-85 year for being recognized as “Volunteer of the Year.” Steve and his wife loved to spend a week in Ocean City each summer enjoying all that the shore town had to offer. They also spent a few days each February in Cape May. Ever since they honeymooned there they had fallen in love with Cape May.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at Givnish of Maple Shade, 600 East Main Street, on Saturday, September 28th from 9:30 am - 11 am. A service will begin at 11 am. Please wear your favorite Philadelphia Phillies jersey or the color red in honor of his favorite team.
