Theodore "Ted" Rendfrey's Obituary
Theodore "Ted" W. Rendfrey, of Moorestown, NJ died peacefully on April 26, 2014 with his family by his side. Ted was the loving husband to Sue Rendfrey (nee Welch) for 44 years. Dear father of Todd Rendfrey (Debbie) and Meghan McDonough (Brendan). Son of Doris and the late Raymond Rendfrey and nephew of Geraldine Garbe, of Riverside NJ. Beloved grandfather to his four grandsons Adrian, Caden, Declan and Kellan.
Ted attended St. Casimir School in Riverside and graduated from Riverside High School in 1963. After a long and steady climb in the sport he loved, Ted was the Senior Men national speed skating champion in 1966. He was activated by the United States Air Force to serve in Korea in response to the Pueblo incident. He returned state side in 1969.
Ted and his wife Sue ran the Alpine Skating Center in Camden, NJ from 1970 to 1973. In 1973, Ted built the Cherry Hill Skating Center in Cherry Hill, NJ. By 1976, Ted had built the Echelon Skating Center in Voorhees, NJ and in 1979 he converted the Liberty Bell Ice Palace to the Palace Roller Skating Center in Philadelphia, PA. He also owned the Holiday Skating Center in Delanco, NJ. Both Ted and Sue developed many skating programs that benefited the area youth. His life long dedication was spending time at his skating centers working with his staff and greeting their customers. Ted also enjoyed spending time in Harvey Cedars, NJ where he pursued his passion for sailing.
Friends and Family are invited to Ted's Life Celebration on Thursday May 1 at Snover Givnish of Cinnaminson, 1200 Route 130 N from 6:30-9:00pm and again on Friday, May 2 from 8:30-10:00am. Followed will be Ted's Mass of Christian burial 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's of Riverside 101 Middleton Street. Entombment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park of Cinnaminson. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania.
