Ty Dang

Ty Dang, 83, of Merchantville, NJ, passed away suddenly on May 13, 2023, in Cooper Hospital, Camden, NJ surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was born on November 15, 1939, in Hanoi, Vietnam, to the late Khue Dang and Tan Nguyen. She had one younger brother, two older brothers and one older sister. She lost her father at a young age, her mother raised the family, and later brought all, but the oldest son, to reside in Hoa Hung, Saigon, Vietnam in 1954. She met her husband through a mutual friend, they married and inherited two children (LeAnh & Tuan) from her husband’s previous marriage. Together, they have three additional children (Thanh, Hoang, and Quynh). In 1973, a freak auto-accident robbed her of her loving husband, while still carrying their youngest daughter, Quynh. Through sheer will and internal strength, she overcame the grief, brought her daughter to life, and raised her family. After the fall of Saigon, Ty was determined to give her children an opportunity for a better future. In 1982, she sent her oldest son Thanh, who was only 14 at the time, to the US. Son, her youngest son, would follow 3 years later. In 1992, Ty and her youngest daughter were the last to arrive in the US and the family was finally reunited. She resided in South Jersey for the remainder of her life. Ty was a devoted mother to her children: LeAnh Tran Blovett (Eddie), Tuan Tran (Dung Tran), Thanh Tran, Hoang Tran (Hoa Huynh), and Quynh Tran (Tam Nguyen). She was also a cherished grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will miss her dearly. Ty will be remembered for her strength, kindness, generosity, selflessness, and her love for her family. Below are tributes from her family. “She thought of others before herself. She is my backbone forever.” (Thanh Tran – Son) “Mom was an Angel. She was like our Mother Hen, opening her wings for us, especially for me, when Dad got mad at me. She always took from us our sorrow, and sickness. She was always the first one, every time, to stand beside us. She raised us all, not just as Mom, but as Dad too. My heart broke apart after I learned she left us, but I’m happy for her because she will be with our father in heaven.” (Tuan Tran – son) “Mom was a loving and caring mother. She was always there for us when we needed her. (Quynh Tran – Daughter) “Ba Noi was the last grandparent I ever had left in my life.” (Thai Tran – Grandson) “Ba Noi made sure to see as many of my ballet performances as possible. I will always appreciate her love and support. (Mia Tran – Granddaughter) “She was the kind and loving grandmother I always looked up to. I will never forget her warm smiles” (Justin & Joey Tran – Grandsons) “Grandma was always supportive. Even when we didn’t get to see her as much, she was just a phone call away. I knew I could count on her to be there for me whenever I needed her. She had such care and love for everyone that interacted with her. Things will never be the same without her, but I know she was happy with the life she had lived.” (Phuong Nguyen – Granddaughter) “Grandma loved being around family. She was strong and supportive when I had cancer. She was always there when I needed her. She always made everyone smile and happy when she was doing something funny.” (Nhu Nguyen – Granddaughter) “She was a classy lady in my eyes.” (Uyen Nguyen) “Ba 5 was a strong and wise lady with an enormous heart, she was a blessing to us all and we loved her very much.” (Chinh Nguyen) “Ba 5 was a cool and calm lady.” (Hieu Mai-Dang) “She was very thoughtful.” (Toan Dang – Nephew) “Whenever I wanted to learn more Vietnamese, she was always ready and willing to teach. She is always loved and cherished, we will all miss her dearly.” (Vinh Dang - Grandnephew) “She was immensely caring and always generous with a smile or hug when you needed it.” (Binh Dang – Grandnephew) “Ba 5 was a discreet person and I never saw her upset my entire life” (Thanh Dang – Nephew) “Ba 5 was like my second mom. She was always there in my life and my memory. She was like a rock, never wavering, no matter what life threw at her, but a rock with the softness of a mother’s touch. I loved her and will miss her very much.” (Thien Dang – Nephew) “She always made sure everyone was welcomed and appreciated” (Minh Dang – Grandnephew) “She was always smiling and ready to give you a warm embrace. We will miss you, Ba Nam” (Raquel Dang – Grandniece) “Ba Nam was always straightforward and to the point. You knew that she cared about you, and she didn’t have to prove it. You just knew” (Tam Dang – Grandnephew) “She gave our family the gifts of elegance, grace, dignity, and love.” (Minh Dang – Grandnephew) A gathering of friends and family will be held at Givnish of Cinnaminson, 1200 Route 130 North, Cinnaminson, NJ on Saturday May 20, 2023, from 9AM – 11AM to honor Ty's life and legacy. Cremation Services will be held on the same day from 12PM – 12:30PM at Philadelphia Crematories, Inc., 7350 State Road, Philadelphia, PA.
