Vahy W. Derzarian's Obituary
Vahe Derzarian, beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, was born on June 5, 1954, in Baghdad, Iraq, to Vartan and Rosa Derzarian. He grew up alongside his older brother, Ara.
As a child, Vahe was known for his handsome looks, long hair, playful spirit, and a bit of mischief. He enjoyed basketball and swimming, and from an early age showed a remarkable gift for languages. He studied seven languages throughout his life and carried with him a deep love and appreciation for language, culture, and learning.
In 1968, Vahe and his family left Iraq and came to the United States before later moving to Lebanon that same year. He attended the American Evangelical School in Zahle, Lebanon, where he remained for eight years. His journey then took him to Greece for a year, and later to Egypt, where he graduated from the University of Cairo with a degree in English Literature.
After completing his education, Vahe worked in various countries around the world, including Jordan and the United Arab Emirates. In 1985, he returned to the United States, first settling in Pennsylvania, then Chicago, before eventually finding his way to New Jersey.
Vahe loved to work and was known for his talent, resourcefulness, and determination. Over the years, he held many different positions across various industries, always finding a way to land on his feet and succeed. In New Jersey, he began working in construction, quickly became a contractor, and eventually built a successful career as a business owner, real estate owner, and investor.
It was in New Jersey that Vahe met and married Ardemis Rashidian, the love of his life and his best friend. Together, they shared a beautiful life filled with travel, adventure, and countless memories. Vahe loved exploring new countries, and he and Ardemis traveled around the world together, visiting many places and embracing different cultures.
Vahe was also a proud Armenian who cared deeply about Armenian history, culture, and current events. He remained interested and engaged in topics affecting the Armenian community throughout his life.
Above all, Vahe will be remembered for the joy he brought into every room. Whether at family gatherings, celebrations, or simple everyday moments, he carried a warm smile and always made sure those around him were enjoying themselves. He treasured time with family and friends and was always ready to lend a helping hand to relatives, friends, and neighbors whenever needed.
Vahe leaves behind his loving wife, Ardemis Derzarian (Rashidian); his brother, Ara Derzarian, and Ara’s wife, Virginia; his nephews, Matthew Derzarian and his fiancée Patricia Bautista, and Thomas Derzarian; his in-laws, Albert and Margo Rashidian, Anahid Hovagimian, wife of the late Jirair Hovagimian; Angele Rashidian, wife of the late John Shidiaq, and Avedis Rashidian; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Vahe’s life was one of resilience, love, humor, generosity, and adventure. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday, June 11th from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church 8701 Ridge Avenue Philadelphia, PA 19128. Vane’s Funeral Service will begin at 11 a.m.
Burial Will take place at Lakeview Memorial Park 1300 Route 130N, Cinnaminson, NJ.
