Valerie Kemp's Obituary
Valerie Hanewicz Kemp, of Mount Laurel NJ, died peacefully on 02 July 2022.
Valerie was born on 07 Apr 1948, in Wilkes Barre, PA to Madeline Gazey Snyder and Harold (Dutch) Snyder. She was Predeceased by both her parents and later, her stepfather, John Hanewicz. She graduated from Meyers High School Class of 1966, Wilkes College Class of 1971 and later, obtained her graduate degree in Special Education from New Jersey Teacher’s College.
Valerie is survived by her beloved husband and partner in life, Herb, to whom she was married for 45 years, her loving sons, Jamaal (Michelle), of Madison, WI, and Benjamin (Abby), of Brookfield CT, her brother Wayne (Cheryl) of Vineyard, UT, and sister Jeanine (Louis) of Brookfield CT. She will be missed by the joys of her life, her precious grandchildren Koda and Bodhi as well as her step grandchildren, Ashley, Lindsey and Eric, along with many other family members and many friends.
Valerie was an educator for almost 30 years in Camden, Mount Laurel and Cinnaminson, where she was loved by both students and parents. Her commitment was to Special Education, always giving her students extra love and attention.
Val served as a Room Mother, and was on the Board of Mount Laurel PTO, while her sons were students in the district.
She loved being outdoors, always tending to her garden on Norwood Road, and enjoyed reading, hiking and yoga. She always enjoyed the company of her many friends and colleagues.

A Celebration of Valerie’s Life will be held on Friday, 08 July 2022 from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at Givnish Funeral Home at 1200 Route 130 N, Cinnaminson, NJ 08077.
Please note that 3:00 -4:00 will be a time for gathering. At 4:00 we hope her friends and family will consider sharing stories and anecdotes so we can remember her for the loving, fun person she was to all of us.
