Virginia and Edward Deeney's Obituary
Virginia “Ginny” Deeney, age 89, passed away on Friday, August 12, 2022, at Grand Strand Medical
Center, Myrtle Beach, SC. She was born in Grand Rapids, MI, to the late Irving and Florence
Dorais.
Ginny served during the Korean War as a nurse in the USAF. She worked as a nurse in many
hospitals in the Philadelphia region, and in numerous other fields of nursing before starting her own
nursing Agency. Ginny and Ed were active members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Somers
Point, NJ, where they both served as Eucharistic Ministers.. She was also a member of the Ladies
Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus of Palmyra,NJ. Ginny had a passionate desire to care for
others. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, who will be dearly missed.
Edward Joseph Deeney, age 91, passed away at his son’s residence in South Carolina on Tuesday,
February 7, 2023. Ed was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Edward and Claire Deeney.
He attended grade school in NYC, Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia and then attended
Dickinson College and graduated from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. Ed was a U.S Air
Force Korean War Veteran. He worked in the retail credit authorization department at Strawbridge &
Clothier, a department store in Philadelphia. Ed was active with the Knights of Columbus in Palmyra
NJ and Somers Point NJ where he served as Faithful Navigator of the council. Ed spent many years
as a volunteer firefighter having attained life membership in the Cinnaminson Fire Department. He
loved to travel with his wife and fishing was a favorite pastime. Following retirement, he and his wife
spent several years in Somers Point, NJ, until moving to the Myrtle Beach area 8 years ago.
Ginny and Edward were married 66 years.
They are survived by their sons; Thomas and wife Marguerite Deeney of Murrells Inlet, SC, Steve
and wife Melissa Deeney, and Michael and wife Susan Deeney both of Cinnaminson, NJ, daughter;
Deborah Brzuszczak and husband Michael of Union Mills, NC, grandchildren; Michelle, Matthew
(wife Melissa), Zachary, Jessica, Baelie and Connor; Ginny’s brother Larry Dorais (wife Marie) of
Indiana; and Ginny’s sister Shirley Fritschy of Florida. Predeceased by Edward’s late brother Joseph
and his wife Claudia.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at Givnish of Cinnaminson, 1200 Route 130 North, on
Saturday, April 15th, from 9:30 – 10:30 am. A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 am at St. Charles
Borromeo, 2500 Branch Pike, Cinnaminson, followed by interment with military honors at Lakeview
Memorial Park.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to: Cinnaminson Fire Department or charity of
choice.
